The 2nds won a 3rd game on the spin but made hard work of it down at picturesque Winchcombe, however the 1sts woes continued with a heavy loss at home to bottom of the table Norton Lindsay which saw us swap places in Div 1.
Div 1 - Catney 1sts 116(4pts) lost to Norton Lindsay 222-5 (22pts) by 106 runs.
A poor day as the visitors racked up 222 on what should have been a helpful pitch. Only Carl Lewis showed any real menace with the ball as Norton posted an excellent total. In reply early wkts meant the pressure was always on, and again ony Carl Lewis with a quickfire 52 offered any real resistance as we succumbed for 116 and a heavy defeat.
So where has it all gone wrong?. True - we have lost crucial players this year, and team selection has been dissjointed to say the least as the issues we have had with non availability and injuries have resulted in us being unable to field anything approaching settled sides on a consistent basis. However this is no excuse as most teams suffer in this respect to one degree or another. What I do know for certain is that the nucleus of players that we have had available have more than enough about them to hold their own, and should not be at the bottom of this division. However, the table never lies at this stage of the season, and it is clear that we now face a real battle to maintain our hard won status in Div 1.
So I am afraid that it is now time for those 5-6 players in the side who have been underperforming so far to step up and produce with both bat and ball on a consistent basis and try and take some of the pressure off Danny. One win is all that it might take for that momentum to change, and when it does we know that sides often then kick on and can put together 4 or 5 wins on the spin, and this is what we must now aim to do. Of course no one will be doing us any favours and so it is really up to US to stand up and make that happen for ourselves. Now is also definitely not the time to retreat into our shells and mope around feeling sorry for ourselves -now is the time for the strong characters we do have in the 1sts to front up and get out there and show their true colours before the games run out, and we end up looking back and saying "if only I had....." Galli
Div 5 - Catney 2nds 196 (19pts) beat Winchcombe 166 (8 pts)by 30 runs.
A 3rd win in succession as an under strength Catney side eventually saw off the stubborn visitors. Batting first excellent contributions from the top 4 (Mat P 63, Ebo 21, Jonks 27, and Eddie 27 saw us to 166-4 with 10 overs left and 240+ a realistic target. However some poor batting then saw us fold tamely for 196 and also miss that 5th batting point to add insult to injury. In reply however we took wkts at good times and the hosts were never really able to threaten the target although they eventually got ot 166. Mat Dixon with 3-39,Adam Prince 4-44, and Eddie with 3-23 all bowled well. A satisfactory win all told but we will have to raise our game further in the coming weeks if we are to continue our good run.

Catney CC Information
Catherine-De-Barnes Cricket Club - more commonly known as Catney - has been in existance since 1949. It takes it's name not as one may think from a Norman Lady but from the 12th century Lord of the Manor who's name was KETELBERNE. By the 17th century the name had been elaborated to Catherine de Barnes, and in the 19th century was known as CATNEY BARNES.Our ground is situated directly behind the Boat Public house in the village itself. The ground is accessed via the narrow passageway between the pub and the adjacent bungalows, and we have plenty of parking space.
We currently field 2 teams in the John Shepherd Cotswold Hills League on Saturdays. The 1st X1 play in Division 1 in and the 2nd X1 in Division 5. The league itself is comprised of 7 divisions at the moment, but is expanding all the time and is very well organised, and very competetive.
The Cotswold League also boasts within its ranks the most picturesque grounds of any league in the country, and as a result there really are some quite stunning places to play. At the moment we use Sunday's for friendly fixtures only in order to give our younger members the exposure to the game that they need.
The Cotswold League itself also has an excellent website which can be accessed via the link below.
Practice night during the season is at the ground itself every Wednesday from c6pm to c9pm. Anyone interested can just come along - it really is that simple!.We understand that some may feel a little awkward about doing that and so may wish to contact someone first.
