Week 9 saw both sides suffer only their second defeats of the season to reduce their leads a the top of their respective divisions. Details below.
Division 1: Catney 1st XI 130 (7pts) lost to Norton Lindsay 184 (21pts) by 54 runs.
A bad day at the office as the normally powerful Catney line-up failed to chase down a modest target of 185. Only Conway Mace (39) and Dan Haywood (34) managed to show any application after James Mason earlier took 5 wkts to bowl out the visitors.
Division 6: Catney 2nd XI: 206-6 (6pts) lost to Exhall & Wixford 207-4 (21pts) by 6 wkts.
The gamble of going into a game a bowler short backfired on us as we were unable to defend 206.Batting first we struggled early on for a change but then Matr Betts (74) and Luke Hanlon (47) came together in a superb 4th wkt partnership of 114 to see us up to 206-6.
Even with a depleted bowling atack we should have been able to defend such a total. However we never really managed to exert any pressure and the hosts batted well to reach their target with 8 balls to spare.
This week sees 1st's travel to Alcester & Ragley whilst the seconds host Earlswood.
Catney CC Information
Catherine-De-Barnes Cricket Club - more commonly known as Catney - has been in existance since 1949. The name CATNEY is beleived to have been derived from Lord KETELBERNE who was the 12th century lord of the manner just after the Norman conquests. Our ground is situated directly behind the Boat Public house in the village itself. The ground is accessed via the narrow passageway between the pub and the adjacent bungalows, and we have plenty of parking space.
We currently field 2 teams in the John Shepherd Cotswold Hills League on Saturdays. The 1st X1 play in Division 1 in and the 2nd X1 will continue their battle for promotion from Division 6. The league itself is comprised of 7 divisions at the moment, but is expanding all the time and is very well organised, and very competetive.
The Cotswold League also boasts within its ranks the most picturesque grounds of any league in the country, and as a result there really are some stunning places to play. At the moment we use Sunday's for friendly fixtures only in order to give our younger members the exposure to the game that they need.
The Cotswold League itself also has an excellent website which can be accessed via the link below.
